Australian Skilled Migration Program





The Skilled stream of the Migration Program is designed to attract migrants who make a significant contribution to the Australian economy, and fill positions where no Australian workers are available.


Step 1 Occupation


Identify interests, passion and abilities and then Choose a course to study in Australia based on the occupation is included on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) via Department of Home Affairs (DHA) website Skilled Occupation List. 


If your occupation is on the MLTSSL, you may be eligible to apply for permanent visa such as the Skilled Independent Visa (subclass 189) : Points-tested Stream that does not require you to have ant state or employer to sponsor you.


Step 2 Point Test


Check Points Test and you should be able to score at least 65 points against points test factors; Age, Educational Qualification, Degree (Major), Work Experience, English language ability (IELTS, TOEFL iBT, OET, PTE Academic or CAE)






Step 3 Consider additional ways to gain extra points 


Professional Year Program, Australian Work Experience (Through Temporary Graduate Visa - SC 485), Live and Study in Regional Area (Perth, Adelaide, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Canberra-All postcodes in the ACT, Newcastle/Lake Macquarie, Wollongong/Illawarra, Geelong, and Hobart), NATTI Credentialed Community Language (CCL) test, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Qualification
